Best Hybrid SUV’s

The market for the best hybrid sports utility vehicles (SUVs) has been experiencing a steady expansion over the last few years. The reasons are not at all complex to comprehend. The best hybrid SUVS have all the good attributes of the traditional SUVs plus some additional advantages. Like all good SUVs, the hybrid variety also looks trendy and has the ruggedness to withstand continuous use on rough and tough terrains, but these have lower emission levels and better aerodynamic properties than the traditional ones. The only aspect that prevents them from making the traditional SUVs obsolete is the cost.

Therefore, what exactly are hybrid SUVs and how do they differ from traditional SUVs. The main difference is in the engine. Like traditional SUVs, these also contain an internal combustion engine. The engines burn fossil fuels such as petrol, diesel, and gas to create energy to set the vehicle in motion. Up to this point, there is not much difference between traditional and hybrid SUVs, but the hybrid SUVs also have an electric motor, which is attached to a battery. That is, these vehicles can also run on electrical energy.

More than 90% of the vehicles on the planet use internal combustion engine technology. The major problem with these vehicles is their emissions of various air pollutants. The engine burns the fossil fuels and exhausts several harmful byproducts, especially carbon dioxide. The increase in the level of carbon dioxide is very toxic for the environment and damaging to the ozone layer, which acts as a protective layer for the earth’s atmosphere by filtering the harmful components of sunlight. Efforts have been undertaken to reduce the level of carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles.

Basically, there are two methodologies for reducing theses emission levels. The first is to develop some technologies that help the internal combustion engines to process the harmful byproducts within the engine and release less harmful gases into the environment. The automobile manufacturers have succeeded to some extent to reduce the emission levels, but these results were rendered pretty useless by the exponential rise in the number of vehicles on the road.

That takes us to the second option – developing electric motors to power the vehicles and doing away with internal combustion engines. However, electrical technology which has thus far been developed, cannot produce the same kind of sophisticated performance in all conditions that internal combustion engines can. A major issue is acceleration beyond a certain speed. In addition, petrol, diesel, and gas outlets are pretty common in all countries. Even though, emission levels of electrical vehicles are considerably lower, recharging facilities for electric vehicle batteries are scarce in most parts of the world at the present time .

The best Hybrid SUVs, which use both technologies, have emerged as an optimum option that provides the best of both worlds.

Wait til next year GM, Dodge, BMW have and engine that gets 25% better fuel economy overall and 40% better in the city limits. www.cnnmoney.com
